Arnold-Chiari Malformation

Like little Jacob in this video, I am a survivor of a potentially terminal birth defect, called Arnold-Chiari malformation, (ACM), one of the many rare types of Spina bifida. Spina bifida is a birth defect in which the bones of the spine do not form properly around the spinal cord. ACM is a condition in which the back of the skull is too small and the hindbrain, (cerebellum), herniated into the upper spinal canal, following an automobile accident causing a traumatic brain injury. Fortunately for me, my life was saved by my brilliant neurosurgeon, Dr. Michael J. Rosner, M.D. There are many symptoms and often times we are misdiagnosed with other neurological problems. I was given a new lease on life and my recovery is nothing short of a miracle. Everyone is not so fortunate. More research needs to take place as many are being diagnosed everyday.
